How Couchside works

Every row is built from the shows you rate. Love this pulls hardest, I like this pulls a little less, and anything close to what you marked Not for me is pushed back. Your ratings also teach it what your list leans toward, such as languages, networks, decades and kinds of show, and a list with more than one taste gets rows for each; Your taste in Settings shows what it has learned. Each interest gets rows in proportion to its weight, and rows called Because you loved follow its favorites, a different one leading from day to day. The page changes a little each time you open Couchside, and holds still while you use it: it leads with another of your best picks, Top picks turn among your strongest, the rows below the first few reorder, each row keeps its first two shows and freshens the rest, shows you have just seen or keep passing over give way to others, and a row you never open anything in rests for a week. What this browser has shown you stays in it.

A match compares a show with your single best pick, so 99% is as close to your taste as anything gets. It measures how close a show sits to what you like and how well it fits your leanings, not a promise you will enjoy it.

For shows TMDB knows, the US age rating, poster, trailers, backdrop and where to watch come from TMDB first. Where to watch lists the services that stream, rent or sell a show in the US and links to TMDB's page for it; that streaming data comes from JustWatch. Whatever TMDB lacks comes from the sources below.

The catalog is a TVmaze snapshot of 90,390 series from 2026-10-05. Cast, seasons, episodes, backdrops and where a show streams or airs are fetched from TVmaze when you open a title, and posters load from TVmaze's image server.

Anyone in a cast has a page of their own. Their photo, dates and shows come from TVmaze. Their biography is the opening of their English Wikipedia article, under CC BY-SA 4.0, and their place of birth and IMDb id come from Wikidata, which this server finds by the TVmaze id Wikidata keeps for them or else by their name and date of birth together; someone it cannot be sure of has no biography. Only their id, name and birthday are sent, never anything about you.

Trailers come from KinoCheck, which has official ones for most recent shows, and play in YouTube's no-cookie player only when you press play; their thumbnails load from YouTube's image server. Age ratings are the US ratings iTunes lists for the shows it sells, so shows iTunes does not sell have none. Service icons are fetched through DuckDuckGo by this server. Where to watch shows where a show first streams or airs; it may stream somewhere else in your country.

You can use Couchside without an account and keep your ratings and My List in this browser. Create an account to save them and your recommendation settings on the server and use them across devices. Your password is stored as a secure hash. Browsing history stays on this device. Nothing plays here: open a title on TVmaze to see where it airs.
